"Rest in the Promise" - fine art print
We all go through season of waiting. Those times are often more difficult than we’d like.
I couldn’t shake this picture… I sketched it in my book a couple months before I finished painting the Bible project. When I know something is coming to an end, a season of transition, I start thinking of the unknown, “what’s next?" For some people this is an exciting time, they get curious of what’s coming; but for people like me, it’s a time of uncertainty and the unknown becomes scary and worrisome. I realize this can be part of a personality trait, but I’ve learned for me it’s a point to mental attack that can bring me into a state that isn't good. It's been a weakness of mine my whole life. Worry. My mind starts playing the worst case scenarios, I become worried about the future. It can go on and on… and the crazy thing is I know better to exercise my faith in times like these. Take every thought captive to Christ...
Then I hear the Lord whisper in my ear, “Rest in the promise.” Do not worry.
I wonder if I’m the only one who experiences this, anyone else relate?
Thank God for His love and promises. This is where I stop, pray and paint, and declare with my brush what I know in my heart God has for me…. to rest in the promise. We all were created with a plan and purpose. God cares for us more than we do ourselves. When I heard him whisper that to me, I sketched what I saw…
Each element symbolizes the meaning behind this painting:
The nest: a place of security and protection, God creates that nest for us.
The eggs: the promises that will hatch. Eggs hold potential, plans and represent new beginnings. God promises a plan and a future for each one of us.
The clouds: the very essence of God is in nature, he is all around us. Clouds remind me of His presence. In the Old Testament, God resided with the Israelites in the cloud. He is with us.
The feathers: representing the Holy Spirit, he is with us in the waiting, giving us comfort and strength to overcome anything we face in the process.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11)
"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." (1 Peter 5:7)
