"Bittersweet" - fine art print
“And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I’d eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.”
– Revelation 10:10

In this piece, “Bittersweet,” I have sought to intertwine the profound narratives of Passover and the Christian redemption through the Messiah. The hands, worn yet tender, represent those of Jesus, emblematic of divine grace, upholding the duality of existence. They hold a bowl filled with honey, symbolizing the sweetness of deliverance and the richness of promised salvation, contrasting with the bitter herbs of Passover that recall the Israelites’ suffering and the bitterness of bondage.
The butterfly, poised gracefully, serves as a transformative bridge between these two worlds: from the bitter herbs of slavery to the sweet redemption of the soul, mirroring the transformation of the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, and the passage from the Old Covenant to the New. It is a visual hymn to the metamorphosis that faith promises—where the bitter trials are not the end, but a passage to a sweeter hope.
