In the times we are living in, there is a desperate need for peace.  As I prayed into this month’s painting, the word I kept hearing was peace.  I saw this painting in my mind as I prayed and started digging into Scripture about the elements of the composition.  The only true peace can be found in Jesus, he is the Prince of Peace.  Worldly peace isn’t sufficient, it won’t last.  No one except the Lord can bring everlasting peace.  For those abiding in him, they will have peace that surpasses understanding; an unshakable peace that keeps us grounded in times of trouble and uncertainty.  God’s peace will keep our minds and heart focused on the eternal, on hope and on God’s plans rather than the world of anxiety and fear.  God’s peace guards us from allowing the enemy into our emotional and mental state.  His peace gives us rest.  

The image I most often picture when I think of God’s peace is a white feather.  The dove is mentioned in scripture in the story of Noah, bringing an olive branch back to Noah as a sign of dry land and of new life bursting forth.  This branch signified a new season and the flood waters subsiding.  The dove and the olive branch is a symbol for peace, God’s grace, and mercy.  It feels as if we are living in the days of Noah; days of turmoil, wickedness, lawlessness, division, strife and such unrest. (read Matthew 24)  This painting is a good reminder to stay focused on God’s peace and his promise of restoration despite all we are seeing around us.   

We also see the dove mentioned in Jesus’ baptism.  As he comes out of the waters, the heavens open and the Spirit descends on him in the form of a dove and remains.  In this case, the dove is a symbol of God’s Spirit, which rests on Jesus, giving him the power and authority to endure his ministry mission on earth.  I found it interesting that in both of these stories the dove is mentioned, there is water present. 

Water is a symbol of spiritual cleansing and purification, new life through baptism.  God cleansed the earth in Noah’s time of the sin that had completely taken over, giving a new start to humanity.  I am praying for God’s cleansing power to flood the earth once again through us, his sons and daughters, who carry the power of the Holy Spirit.  John 7:38 says, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”  We are agents of living waters to flow out of our lives and reach the world around us.  We are cleansed of our old sinful nature and given a new life of salvation in Christ.  Through the Holy Spirit, God gives us the power and authority to carry out his mission on this earth.  Let’s be the healing waters this world needs.  Flood the earth with his love.  Giving others the hope and peace that the world can’t offer, eternal life in Christ.

“But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24: 13-14

When praying through June’s painting, all I could see was fruit on a table, colourful and delicious looking.  I really enjoy painting fruit, so of course this was an awesome composition to see… I asked the Lord to speak to me about what this fruit means.  The first words I heard were, “Mature Fruit.”  He began speaking to me about spiritual maturity, spiritual fruit and how we must move into maturity as the body of Christ and individuals.  During trials and testing, we are often being pruned and challenged to repent of sinful ways so we become more mature in our walk and faith.  Our character is matured as we see in the perspective of the Spirit rather than in the flesh.  

The first verse most of us will think about with fruit is in Galatians, referring to spiritual fruit. 

What does it mean to bear fruit? Essentially, it is becoming like Jesus. Spiritual fruit will show itself in our lives as a change in our character and outlook. As we spend time with Jesus and get to know Him better, His thoughts will become our thoughts. His purpose will become our purpose. We will become more like Him.

Spiritual fruit is what others see in your life.  Do you exude any of the fruits of the Spirit outlined in Galatians?  Something to think about.  I began to read about how fruit matures, here is what I found out:

Maturing and ripening process:

Fruits undergo numerous changes during ripening. The major changes include fruit softening, sweetening, decreased bitterness, and colour change. These changes begin in an inner part of the fruit, working its way towards outer most tissue of the fruit.  The maturing process of fruits refers to the last stage of the biological function, when they grow to the maximum size.  The best quality of fruit when harvest is done at the perfect maturity stage.  Picked and ready to eat!

I always find it amazing how God designed the world around us and how we can learn spiritual truths from His creation.  The parallels that were highlighted to me:

• Fruit softening, much like our hearts
• Becoming sweeter and less bitter, resulting as we repent of our sinful ways and fleshly desires
• Colour changing, we become richer in tone as we mature, becoming beautiful shades of God’s masterpiece. Our character can be like colour… changing as we mature.
• Change occurs inside the fruit towards the outside, as does in a person. We change and develop from what is in our heart and minds.  When focused on Christ and in the Word, we develop from the inside out. 

I hope this simple painting of fruit will be a reminder of becoming more like Jesus.  My desire is to know him more and continually develop into spiritual maturity day by day.  

P.S.  I also have to mention, I painted this outside on a porch in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.  My parents have a place in the Okanagan where we go to, to get away and relax.  It is the most gorgeous country-side of wineries, hills and lakes.  Orchards bloom everywhere in this region.  The perfect place to paint and reflect on producing spiritual fruit, where fruit grows in abundance.  My prayer is we all grow into maturity in Christ, so we can serve others with His goodness.  It is a process that develops our entire life, as we press on towards the day we see Jesus face to face.

"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained."  Philippians 3: 14-16

May is an extra special month for me, it’s my birthday month!  When I began praying through the painting for this May, I automatically saw lily of the valley.  “Too obvious,” I thought, lily of the valley is the birthday flower for May; then I saw the flowers in a pitcher on a table with communion beside it.  That was the image so strongly impressed on my heart, I had to paint it.  I asked God for the meaning behind this still life and here’s what I heard…

We must remember the simplicity of the gospel, what Jesus Christ accomplished for us on the cross.  The body and blood shed for our sins and the new covenant we walk in.  We ought to  partake in this remembrance daily, not just on Sundays or occasions.  This can be done in our homes with our families on a daily basis or as we feel lead.  It brings us back to the foundation of our faith and realigns our hearts.  It is life transforming.  We are the fragrance of Christ, pouring out our love for Him so others can see Christ in us.  We cannot lose our voice in this world, our life should be an aroma glorifying the Lord wherever we go.  Remember these things.

The lily of the valley:

Lily of the valley is the May flower meaning, “return to happiness.”  In the Bible, lily of the valley is mentioned 15 times, most often in Song of Songs. Since the flower blooms so early in springtime, in Christianity it represents the Second Coming of Christ.  In Song of Songs the flower refers to us, the bride of Christ.  We often think it’s only an image of Jesus, but in the context of this Scripture, it is describing us – the beloved.  We are the fragrance of Christ in this world.

Lily of the valley represents simplicity, purity, humility and an effortless glory of the saints. The dainty white flower hangs like a bell, sending forth it’s sweet sound.  With its head bowed, it reminds us of our posture towards our King, “Holy Holy is the Lord Almighty!” and yet he humbled himself in the lowest position as a suffering servant for our salvation and a life of abundance.

In ancient times, lily of the valley was often used as a medical remedy for a lost voice.  Say what?!  When I read that, I knew the Lord was saying, “we cannot lose our voice.”  God wants to heal those who have lost their voice for him.  We are living in a time where our voice is being threatened, being silenced and the freedom to practice our faith is being tested.  We are seeing the Christian faith being persecuted in almost every area of society.  We have to rise up with a voice of freedom and salvation.  It has been watered-down in the name of political correctness.  If we aren’t careful, it will be taken away and we will experience great persecution.  We must spread the ‘fragrance of the knowledge of him’ everywhere we go. 

The Bread and Wine:

The two elements of communion, the body and blood shed for you.  The physical action of eating and drinking is designed to remind us that we spiritually “ingest” and depend upon Jesus and the saving benefits of his life, death, and resurrection.  “Do this in remembrance of me.”

The Butterfly:

The butterfly is a symbol of transformation and resurrection power.  This beautiful little creature reminds us of a life transformed through Christ, here and now.  In him, all things are made new. 

I pray the month of May’s print is a reminder of the hope we have in Christ and the fragrance we carry to others.  We cannot lose our voice declaring the good news! 

“How lovely on the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who announces peace
And brings good news of happiness,
Who announces salvation,
And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices. They call out together for joy, for they will see with their own eyes the return of the Lord to Zion.”  Isaiah 52:7-8

"Nature Sings" - 24" x 20" acrylic on canvas

Collectors Club | April 2020

I had this idea months ago... create a fun way to collect meaningful artwork with a message for those who appreciate my work... out of that idea, the Collectors Club was born!  Here is a peak at my first months painting.  Thank you to all who signed up for the first month, I truly appreciate each one of you for beginning this journey with me.

I woke up one morning with the words, “all nature sings” going through my mind.  Over and over I could hear it, like a song being sung, but it was coming from leaves swaying in the wind, as if I could see the sound. I saw art painted of leaves, with light, colour and movement of the brush strokes, all suggesting the sounds of praising and worshiping the Lord.  I heard this beautiful new sound and song, like a symphony of leaves singing to Jesus.  What if we could see nature singing?  I began to imagine what that would look like.  We can hear it if we take the time to quiet ourselves and listen.  What would it look like? 

This painting is a response to that morning.  God has been speaking to me a lot right now to pay attention to nature and what we can learn about His Kingdom from the creation around us.  It glorifies and testifies of Him. "The heavens declare the glory of God", says Psalm 19.  We can join in this praise and song of thanksgiving like David did in the psalms, just by seeing the beautiful things he has made around us.

I actually heard the Holy Spirit tell me that nature “gets it” more than we do at times.  I felt convicted of how often I forget to worship and praise him no matter what season or circumstances I am in.  The leaves do, so I should too. 

Then I heard the Lord speak to me about how nature responds to him and he showed me in this vision upon waking, what that looks like.  Nature follows God’s times and season; nature has a cycle of growth, lying dormant, sprouting, blossoming and dying according to its kind.  I began to see what God was showing me, how we too must learn to tune into the season we are in, individually, corporately, the “time and season” on the earth we are living in and hear what he is saying to us, how to react and move accordingly, all the while remembering to take the time to praise Him.

This all happened at the end of February/ early March… I painted “Nature Sings” in response to what I was hearing and seeing.  Little did I know when I painted this (I planned it to be my first Collectors Club print!) that we would enter into such a time of unknown, of so many questions about what is happening in the world, about this virus, about our economy, future of schools and businesses, etc.  I believe God was preparing me for this time and praise Him in the midst of it.  Take the time to re-focus what matters most; family, the beauty of nature, slowing down from busyness and breathe in His presence and listen.  We are entering spring time – God’s natural time of budding and blossoming… as you see the green sprout around you, take time to listen to the leaves singing.  Praise and worship the Lord no matter what is going on around you.  It’s the perfect time to reflect and re-align with God’s promises and purposes for his sons and daughters to arise with a new sound!  All of creation is waiting for us.

"Stay in the Snow"

I painted this back in December of 2019.  I never did release the finished painting... I'm not actually sure why I didn't back then, I just never felt promoted to.  Sometimes I paint things based on very personal dreams and words, so I keep them to myself, but for the last two weeks or so... it has been snowing where I live everyday!  Yup, snow in April here in Alberta!  And each day I hear God saying to me, you never did share about that painting, now is the time. So today I made a point to sit down and write about it.

This phrase started for me back on Sept. 9, 2018.  I had a dream that night where myself and another person were being snowed on, just the two of us, while being captured by evil people.  I was slightly scared in the dream, but because of the snow, I felt safe.  It felt like a protective covering around us in the dream.  I heard God's voice speak to me, "stay in the snow." There was way more going on in the dream, but for the purpose of this painting and message I will focus on the snow and what I believe is an instruction and message.

I knew the dream had a message for me personally about prophetic purity and staying pure of heart, but I also see it as a message for the purity of the Church, the bride of Christ.  Is God trying to purify His bride?  I think so!  At the time, my dream was personal to me and held instructions for my heart, but now seeing what is happening in the world, I truly believe God is doing a way bigger thing. It always starts with us individually... purifying our own heart and life, but I also believe God is giving his Church time to get prepared!  It says in the Bible, Jesus is coming back for a pure bride.  

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless." (Ephesians 5: 25-27)

"Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” (Revelation 19: 7-9)

"Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." (Psalm 51:7)

I will break down the painting and what each piece means from my perspective, but what I love about art is it will speak differently to each of us.  Yes, there may be a message from my perspective, but never let it limit what God may be showing you individually.  

The Dark Sky:

In my dream, the feeling was dark.  We were captured by evil people with the intention to steal our voice.  We live in a dark world.  There are dark spiritual forces at work around us.  I believe there are dark days ahead.  But be of good cheer!  Jesus already won the war on the Cross and uses His Church to be a light to shine bright!  I do believe we are in a season where there will be a divide even in the Church, of those who are purified and made ready and those who aren't. (The parable of the Ten Virgins - Matthew 25)

We must get ready and get real with ourselves while there is time!

The White Rose: 

White has ever been a symbol of innocence, of a world unspoiled and untarnished. The meaning of a white roses is innocence and spiritual love. The white rose glorifies a love that is unaware of the temptations of the flesh and resides only in the soul. As opposed to the red rose that speaks of passionate promises, the meaning of a white rose is in its simplicity and pristine purity. The white rose also represents Jesus Christ's resurrection; the resurrection power that resides in the life of a believer and washes away our sins, making us clean.

The Snow:

Snow can represent: pure/purity (white), robe of righteousness (snow on the earth is like a robe of righteousness on an earthen vessel), Glory, Refreshing and God's Word.  In the dream I felt protection surrounding me by being snowed on.  And when I heard, "stay in the snow." I believe the Lord was showing me a message and instruction... if we STAY in purity, have pure motives of the heart and move in righteousness, we will be safe.  Even if we are "captured" we must stay in purity.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.  If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." (Isaiah 1:18-19)

 The Glass Dome:

When praying through this painting, I kept seeing the white rose being snowed on; the way I saw the protection, was in a glass dome.  The glass also speaks to me personally about the prophetic gifting.  Glass speaks of seeing, seeing through a spiritual lens, a new perspective.  Clear glass is clarity.  I also saw it as a protective shield around the rose.  

Biblically, glass speaks of the heart, transparent and pure.  

I also heard the Lord say we are in a "window of time" to get prepared.  In the days we are seeing right now, with such uncertainty, we must walk in purity and conform to the image of Christ, not of this world.  

The Scroll with a Blue Ribbon:

The plans and purposes of God for each one of us are predestined.  I truly believe the closer we walk with him, the more we are purified and made clean, the more we hear from him and his instruction are made clear.  The scroll is a symbol of those plans, the revelation and instructions he gives to us.  His written Word and His instructions that come through the Holy Spirit's voice moment by moment as we live each day.  

The White Feather:

I painted many many white feathers in the Bible Art Collection during the last two years.  I used them to represent the Holy Spirit, his Presence and His peace.  

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4: 6-7)

No matter what trials we face in this world, God promises to give us peace and to guard our hearts and minds in Christ.  Instead of allowing worry and fear to steal our peace, we present our requests to God. When we submit our transition and turmoil to God, and invite him into our circumstance, we allow God’s peace to transcend our situation. 

 ~

This was a very personal painting that speaks to my heart and is a reminder to me to continually renew my mind, my heart and ask God to create in me a clean heart - a pure heart, for those are the ones that will ascend the mountain of the Lord... and I want to be one of those people!  We all have time now to get ready.  What are the areas of your life that need purifying?  What areas of your heart need to be cleansed?  Jesus Christ forgives all who call upon his name and believe.  To be prepared and made ready, a pure bride for His second coming.

"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)

Back home from a powerful weekend at the Levite Summit in Red Deer, AB.  What an amazing time of worship, painting, soaking in God's presence and gleaning from wisdom of others teaching. Spending time in prayer, connecting with others... it was just good.  I think everyone needs to take at least one time a year to spend time with your tribe, be stretched to learn more, to be inspired and challenged and lets not forget the best part... pause to hear God's voice (well, that should be daily).  Although I was there as a presenter, I was also there as a student.  Thank you Levite Summit for inviting me to be part of what you are doing for the Kingdom Creatives!

So what's "the hummingbird pause" you might ask? Selah?  

Let me take you through the process of how I came to paint this.  It will give you a window into how I hear from the Lord. (It's like a super fun treasure hunt, where He reveals more and more along the journey.)

About a week before the Levite Summit, I texted Amy (the best events manager of their ministry) and simply asked, "in one word can you tell me a theme for the conference?"  She replied, "Selah."

Ok then... selah.  Hmmm... I knew that word was used all over the Psalms.  So I looked it up.  What does selah mean in the Bible?

"The word selah is found in two books of the Bible, but is most prevalent in the Psalms, where it appears 71 times. It also appears three times in the third chapter of the minor prophet Habakkuk. 

There is a great deal of uncertainty about the meaning of selah. Most versions of the Bible do not attempt to translate selah but simply transliterate the word straight from the Hebrew.

One possibiliy is that Selah is thought to be rendered from two Hebrew words: s_lah, “to praise”; and s_lal, “to lift up.” Another commentator believes it comes from salah, “to pause.” From salah comes the belief that selah is a musical notation signifying a rest to the singers and/or instrumentalists who performed the psalms. If this is true, then each time selah appears in a psalm, the musicians paused, perhaps to take a breath, to sing a cappella, or to let the instruments play alone. Perhaps they were pausing to praise the One about whom the song was speaking, perhaps even lifting their hands in worship. This theory would encompass all these meanings—“praise,” “lift up,” and “pause.” (Got Questions)

So I prayed, Lord what is the picture you are wanting me to paint to reflect the theme "selah."  In my minds eye, I see a hummingbird flying by and drink from a flower.  I hear the Lord say, "the hummingbird pause."  

I have learned over time how God speaks to me, usually in a short picture or I hear him speak a simple phrase. I've learned to not overthink it, I know the Lord is showing me something.  That is when the fun begins... now I get to dig in deeper with Him to see what He's talking about.

I thought to myself, "does a hummingbird pause?"  I knew the hummingbird has the fastest wings of all the birds, this phrase felt like an oxymoron.  Of all the words to put with a hummingbird, pause didn't seem like an attribute to their nature when flying.  So... I look it up: "does a hummingbird pause?"

The first article that popped up on my computer was titled, "Even Hummingbirds Pause" by Eileen Rockefeller.  What!  I laughed a little... so they do pause!  This is what it reads,

"Hummingbirds’ wings beat at an astonishing rate of forty to ninety times per second.  They are birds on steroids, darting with precision from one flower to the next to drink nectar.  A friend of ours, who made a nature documentary, showed me a clip of a hummingbird pausing in mid-air.  His camera takes one thousand frames per minute.  What a mind-boggling discovery to learn that even hummingbirds pause!  This knowledge has me wondering: If, in the rush hour of ornithological flight, even the fastest wings stop, shouldn’t we humans take a hint?  Cameras, cars, and email interfere.  Nature offers balance."

WOW!  Should we humans take a hint from nature?

God speaks to me so much through nature, while painting the Bible I noticed God in nature, he spoke through his creation, he used creation as teaching metaphors for us. Reading this article I knew what the Lord was showing me: in our busy lives, in this world of distraction and constant busyness, we must take time to pause, to praise, to selah, and "drink in deeply" from God's nectar, His Spirit.  The nectar is the life source for hummingbirds, and spiritually speaking, our life source is to "drink deeply" of God's presence through the Holy Spirit. To pause is the only way to sustain us, to balance us between life duties and filling up spiritually in His presence.  It's the connection to Him we need to hear him clearly. 

Oh ya, there was another detail... the flower!  My absolute favourite part to paint... what flower would add to the depth of meaning in this painting, I thought to myself?  I googled what flowers hummingbirds love to eat from, and yes... this was the first one that came up...  A bleeding heart.  

Ok... now it speaks an even deeper message!  The bleeding heart represent passionate love between two people, a spiritual connect.  The first thing I thought of is Jesus's ultimate display of love for us, his sacrifice and death on the cross.  He bled to atone for our sins, so we can be forgiven and have the gift of salvation.  Jesus is the bleeding heart.  

"How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!" (Hebrews 9:14)

Wow!  I was so excited to paint this... little did I know how much more it would unfold when I got to the Levite Summit.  I didn't tell anyone there what I was going to paint or the meaning I was hearing from the Lord.  I now go into everything I do now with an expectation that God will show up in ways I don't even know or expect.  What will he do through a simple painting of a hummingbird?  It's always an adventure walking with Jesus.  We just have to listen and be obedient to his direction, even when we don't know the full outcome. And be attentive to see Him move.

While on stage painting, God spoke to my spirit in more layers through the speakers testimonies, in worship and in feelings I can't describe in words.  And I always cry now... after painting the Bible, I get overwhelmed by God's presence, I just cry.  (It's a good cry though!)

As the artist, God always saves the best part for me... at the end, there is usually one person in the crowd that God is speaking to through the painting. (there may be more, but he usually sends me one.) 

A woman politely came up to me at the end of the service, I noticed her tears.  She quietly said, "you painted this just for me."  I started crying, I felt the love of the Father for this woman so strongly.  She proceeded to tell me, "before you painted the hummingbird, I knew if it was a bird, it was a word for me."  God knows birds are her thing.  And when I painted specifically a hummingbird, she cried.  A hummingbird is "her bird."  (she was even wearing a hummingbird t-shirt that day!!)  Crazy!  It spoke straight to her heart of some deep inner healing she needs in her life.  God knew she would be there that day and knew everything about this precious daughter of His.  He was healing wounds of her past, healing her heart through a painting of a hummingbird drinking deeply of the bleeding heart. 

As her tears fell, I prayed for her and watched God touch her.  I don't know all the areas God was touching in this beautiful girl, but I was blown away by his loving nature to the one he chose in the crowd. 

I thanked God for this woman.  He's a God of the individual, he created you, knows right where you are at.  He wants to draw you to Him and say, "I'm right here with you." He also knows me so well, that I love seeing "the one" touched by the art... it gives me the awe and wonder of his intricate ways through divine connections. 

As you ponder this week and celebrate a day of LOVE, Valentine's Day, may you remember to pause, praise Him, drink deeply from the nectar of bleeding heart who loves you so intricately. 

We need you Lord.  Your presence is the only thing that sustains us in life.

"but drink deeply of God's Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and offer praise in your hearts to the Lord." (Ephesians 5:19)

Do you hunger for more of God?  More of the Word?  More of His Presence?

I painted this piece at the graduation weekend and worship celebration in Indiana a couple weeks ago.  It was an awesome way to end a two year study (and for me, painting) through every 66 books of the Bible.  It was quite a journey to say the least!

I knew I would be painting live in the worship night during this celebration weekend of reviveSCHOOL, as always, I prayed about a message God wanted me to paint for that night.  As I spent some time with the Lord praying, I heard Him say to me, "do you hunger for more?"  I had an idea where He was going with this...

After completing a 2 year, in depth study and marathon of painting through the Bible, do I hunger for more or say great job and leave it in the past?  Do I hunger for more of Him?  To go deeper into the Word... God spoke to my heart concerning where I was at in finishing an accomplishment such as painting through the Bible, but is that the end?  Do we stop there and say, well done!  You did it!  And check off an accomplishment box that I completed reading through the Bible and stop there.

No... God was asking me, "do you hunger for more?" It's a choice and a response. It should never stop at a timeline or finish line in the natural.  He was showing me this is just the beginning!

I saw this painting unfold in my mind as I sat with Him.  A path in a canopy of green trees, lite with sunlight peeking through the branches, drawing me to walk towards the light on a narrow path.  A single butterfly fluttering in the foreground almost as if saying, follow me. I saw the Bible opened laying on a linen cloth, bread broken and of course, a flower! (If you heard about my story painting the Bible, you will understand why I had to have a flower in there.)  A red anemone laying in front of the scene. I started to unpack what the vision represented... 

The open Word of God is alive and active, it leads us on a path of knowing Him, Jesus Christ. Jesus is in all the Bible, everything points to Him.  He is the light, the way the truth and the life, resurrection power, He is the bread of life, the source of our spiritual nourishment, the aroma of sacrifice.  We must eat on the bread of life, having an intimate relationship with Him, He welcomes all to the table to dine.  The flower represents the blood that was shed for all humanity on the Cross in order to have salvation and eternal life.  The butterfly is our life transformed through Him, now and in eternity! And the linen represents, "Jesus is alive!" His body left the tomb.

When we know Jesus, we hear His voice. He guides and directs our steps down the narrow path of our destiny.  He has a plan for each and every person to fulfill while on earth.  We must get to know Him, so we can discern His voice from that of others that lead us astray.  And in order to know Jesus, we must read His Word and spend time with Him in His presence. 

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)

"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)

"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;" (John 11:25)

"Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. ³⁶ But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. ³⁷ All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. ³⁸ For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. ³⁹ And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. ⁴⁰ For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (John 6: 35-40)

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. ¹⁵ For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." (2 Corinthians 2:14-15)

Here's the crazy part, after I sketched out this painting, I talked to my cousin Kyle, who would be preaching that night as I painted, and dared asked him what his message was about.  (I never used to do that while we were traveling and painting, it was more fun that way to see how the Lord was speaking to us individually that came together.)  Well... I wasn't surprised when I heard what he was thinking, it fit perfectly and added more confirmation to this painting!  He said his main message was about the Road to Emmaus, Luke 24:13-35.  After reading the passages in the Bible, I saw the painting coming together and the Lord speaking more clearly about the message and why he was asking me if I hunger for more.  

Another question entered my mind when I read the Scriptures: Do we SEE Him in our daily walk?

On the Road to Emmaus

^{13 "}Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. ¹⁴ They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. ¹⁵ As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; ¹⁶ but they were kept from recognizing him.

¹⁷ He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. ¹⁸ One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

¹⁹ “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. ²⁰ The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; ²¹ but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. ²² In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning ²³ but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. ²⁴ Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

²⁵ He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” ²⁷ And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

²⁸ As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. ²⁹ But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

³⁰ When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. ³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. ³² They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

³³ They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together ³⁴ and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” ³⁵ Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread." (Luke 24:13-35)

Do we recognize Jesus on the path beside us?  Do we hunger for more of Him?  

These two guys didn't even recognize Jesus until he broke the bread!  I am going to leave it there for you to pray and seek the Lord for interpretation in your own life.  I know what I felt Him speaking to me about... and I am going to use this as a reminder to ignite that fire and passion to hunger for MORE! To open my eyes. It's more than duties, it's about encountering the King of Glory, the living God, the Messiah, everyday on our journey.  He's always there right beside us to lead the way.  Sometimes it's a shift in perspective to see He's right there speaking to us.  The bread of life.

I pray this painting speaks to your heart and blesses you.  May you pause for a moment and reflect, ask God, "Do I hunger for more of you?" "Do I see you right beside me?"  "What is your plan for my life, to be a light and carry out the calling you have anointed me for..."  

May we all open our eyes to see the MORE!
