"Humility" - Painted Day 17 of reviveOHIO, Darke County
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (John 13:14-17)
The ultimate example of humility and servanthood is found in Jesus. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, the lowliest position of servants. They were stunned by this act, something a Master and King should never do. Jesus came to conquer the world as a suffering servant.
The humility expressed by His act with towel and basin foreshadowed His ultimate act of humility and love on the cross. He taught us to do this for one another, serve each other in love. He is the living water, poured out over us to cleanse and renew, so we may have life.
